Beware: Polio worker bitten by dog
A union council polio worker said Malang Jan, a 20-year-old polio worker, was attacked on Wednesday.
SHABQADAR:
A polio worker was bitten by a dog while he was administering vaccines in Khwaizai Sam Ghakhi, Mohmand Agency.
Speaking to The Express Tribune, a union council polio worker said Malang Jan, a 20-year-old polio worker, was attacked on Wednesday.
He was rushed to a nearby community health centre but was later taken to Ghallanai Headquarters Hospital where he was informed the facility did not have the rabies vaccine. However, Jan was turned back for a second time by staffers who insisted there were no vaccines available at the hospital either.
An official of the agency surgeon’s office at Ghallanai said such vaccines are only available at the agency surgeon’s office. “Residents are reluctant to use the vaccine as they will need to take 14 doses,” he said. “The rabies vaccine which is available in the market only requires them to take three doses.”
