SUKKUR:
Three students who went missing on February 1 were recovered by the Shikarpur police after an encounter with the kidnappers near the katcha area of Garhi Tegho, Khanpur. One of the kidnappers was arrested.
The boys were abducted near Lanjo Laro within the limits of the Naparkot police station as they made their way home with other students after appearing for a test at the Cadet College in Larkana. Sources claim that on Wednesday, a heavy contingent of the police led by Khanpur DSP Abdul Qadir Chandio raided and cordoned off the katcha area on a tip-off.
When the kidnappers spotted the police, they opened fire at the law enforcers. The police and kidnappers exchanged fire for 45 minutes after which the abductors managed to escape leaving the students and an injured accomplice behind.
According to sources, the police had arrested some men and women from the Teghani tribe and bartered them for the students. While talking to The Express Tribune, Shikarpur SSP Saqib Ismail Memon confirmed that the students had been recovered. He denied that the police had made deals with the kidnappers, adding that the law enforcers had raided the kidnappers hideout after receiving intelligence of their presence in the area.
