A brawl broke out between two undergraduate student groups in the college canteen over money. The two groups faced off inside the cafeteria, broke several chairs and damaged other college equipment. Three students were severely injured after one of the students began to fire.
The student groups also fired upon security officials and the college guards who tried to break their way into the cafeteria.
The students later locked up all hostel and university gates so that no one was able to leave the premises. A large police contingent eventually broke up the brawl.
The academic board sentenced a Law department student, Imran Hajiana, to a one-year ban and fined him Rs50,000. Hasan Sardar, an undergraduate, was banned from the university for life. University sources said that the boys had an old rivalry.
Ten other students are currently being investigated. The disciplinary committee will decide their fate within the week. “Separate FIR’s have been registered against all students implicated in the incident with the Alpa police station,” said Nasir Shahid, the BZU academic coordinator.
