LAHORE:

The Punjab Police has launched the installation of additional surveillance cameras in police stations and begun recording all public dealings as part of a reforms project aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability.

Under the initiative, the number of cameras in each of the 84 police stations across Lahore will be increased from three to six. Three additional cameras will be installed in the veranda, investigation room and at the main entrance of each station.

Authorities have also directed that non-functional cameras in SHO rooms, front desks and lock-ups be made operational without delay. Sources said the provision of body cameras to all police stations in Lahore has also commenced. Each station will be supplied 20 body cameras for officers. Through the devices, all interactions and dealings between police officials and the citizens will be fully recorded.

Officials have been instructed to ensure that no public dealing takes place outside camera coverage.
