Learn Urdu with a little help from Game of Thrones
Fusing pop and desi culture, Ramish Safa explains the Urdu alphabet by painting Games of Throne characters on mugs

The brains behind popular comic series Kachi Goliyaan, Ramish Safa, has come up with a fun and interesting idea to teach Urdu alphabets.
Fusing pop and desi culture, Safa explains the Urdu alphabet by painting Game of Throne characters on mugs.
The mugs are also a pun on the characters of the Game of Thrones and desi culture itself.
The mug for Lanniester reads, “Laam for Lannister.” Explaining the usage as, “Kuch Lannisters apni debts waapis nahi kartay.”
“The idea behind the GoT mug series had two motives. I’m coming out with a book called Urdu Aik So Aik (Urdu 101). It’s a modern day take on what Urdu has become and how easily it has taken in English just like it took in several languages in the past,” Safa told Buzzfeed.

“The mug series was sort of a teaser for what the book would offer. Quirky illustrations, funny little tag lines and relatable content. And like everything else I do it would attempt to fuse in popular culture with the coolness of our desi elements. The response has been great. I love GoT and so does my audience. I plan to launch more pop culture oriented products in the coming weeks,” he added.
