Crimes in Islamabad: Police officials suspended for negligence

Decision taken after dacoity near Islamabad club, firing at PIMS

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali on Sunday took notice of a dacoity incident near the Islamabad club and a firing incident at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) that targeted Dr Shahid Nawaz Malik, Head of the Cardiology Department.

The interior minister suspended concerned police officials and ordered registration of an FIR against the concerned police officials for their criminal negligence, says a press release issued on Sunday.

The police officers against whom action was taken are DSP Shahzad Town, who was responsible for patrolling of half of Islamabad; Sub Inspector Shafqat, Incharge-Shift Control; Duty Officer Secretariat police station Sub-Inspector Gulzar; ASI Zulfiqar of Secretariat police station; Duty Officer Shahzad Town police station; ASI Khalid, Patrol Officer Koral police station; ASI Shabbir, Patrol Officer, Loi Bher ASI, Liaqat, Patrol Officer Sehala ASI Gul Faraz.


Similarly, the interior minister, while taking notice of the PIMS incident, suspended SHO Margallah police station, Rukhsar Mehdi with immediate effect.

Chairing a meeting of police high-ups and officers at the Punjab House, the interior minister said no compromise would be made on law and order in the capital.

In a related development, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif ordered the formation of a special medical board for the treatment of Dr Shahid Nawaz. He directed the ministry of interior and relevant departments to take measures for heightening the security of sensitive places in the federal capital, especially hospitals and schools, to avoid recurrence of such unfortunate instances in future.
