ASWJ leader escapes assassination attempt in Karachi

His convoy was attacked by unknown assailants on the Quaidabad bridge leaving two of his guards injured

KARACHI:
Ahl-e-Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) leader Aurangzaib Farooqui escaped an assassination attempt late on Saturday evening, Express News reported.

According to initial details, Farooqui was heading towards his home after attending an event when his convoy was attacked by unknown assailants on the Quaidabad bridge.

While Farooqui remained unhurt, at least two of his guards were reported to have sustained injuries.


Following the attack, a large contingent of police and Rangers rushed to the spot.

DSP Fakharul Islam confirmed the incident and said that they were further probing the incident.

This is not the first time that Farooqui, the head of ASWJ's Karachi chapter, has been attacked. In August 2013, his motorcade was attacked near Abbas Town on Abul Hasan Asfahani road. There were no casualties in the attack.

In December 2012, he was injured while three of his guards and a driver were killed, when his convoy was attacked near NIPA in Gulshan-e-Iqbal area of Karachi.
