Promoting business: Economic zone for Rawalpindi on the cards

The government was committed to enhancing this ratio to 20 per cent of GDP.

The government plans to set up a special economic zone (SEZ) in Rawalpindi to promote local industries and foreign investment.


Board of Investment Chairman Miftah Ismail, during a visit to the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industries on Thursday, said SEZs, which will also be established in other cities, will get a special tax relief.

He said that ratio of foreign direct investment in the country is mere four per cent of the total investment, adding that the government was committed to enhancing this ratio to 20 per cent of GDP.

RCCI President Syed Asad Mashadi said the government should promote trade with Afghanistan and Central Asian countries.
