SUKKUR:

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan claimed on Thursday that the Shikarpur imambargah bomb blast was the result of criminal negligence and incapability of the police department, insisting they should be depoliticised on a war footing.

He made the remark while talking to the media Thursday afternoon after visiting Karbala Maula Imambargah in Shikarpur, where he offered condolences to the members of Shuhada Committee and relatives of the deceased.

Over 60 people lost their lives and several others were injured in an explosion during Friday prayers last month.

While expressing his deepest sorrows over the tragic incident, he announced that the PTI will support the Shuhada Committee’s long-march from Shikarpur to Karachi on February 15.

Imran argued that police have been politicised and thus fail to perform their duty, adding that lawlessness in Sindh is on the rise and people are being kidnapped for ransom due to which people prefer to remain indoors after sunset.

Giving example of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) police, he claimed that they have been depoliticised and thus have become model for others. We cannot make police’s performance better without depoliticising them, he added.

While talking about terrorism, he noted that it has different shades in different places, adding terrorism cannot be ended by simply condemning it, as we cannot win war against terrorism without finding its root causes.

During the All Parties Conference (APC) we have given a complete mandate to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for curbing terrorism but what he has done so far, he questioned rhetorically.

Imran also urged upon the premier to take up the matter of Baldia factory fire incident, in which more than 257 poor workers were burnt alive for extortion.

Coming hard on the Sindh government, the PTI chief said it is not spending funds for the development of the province.

Talking about the upcoming Senate elections, Imran said the PPP has given tickets to three persons in K-P, while they have only four MPAs in the province, adding they need at least 50 lawmakers for getting three senators elected. This means that they [PPP] will use money to buy MPAs which is highly condemnable, he added.

Opposing secret voting for the purpose, he said the senators should be elected through open voting. He asked the people to cordon off the houses of those MPAs, who sell themselves for money.

Criticising the PPP, the PTI chief said it is sucking the blood of Sindhis in the name of Bhutto and how long this practice will continue?

Blaming the leaderships of the MQM and the PPP, he said they often make the people fight for their own vested interests and when they need each other, they join hands, as is the case with the upcoming Senate elections.
