FAISALABAD:

Intra-city transport owners in Faisalabad staged a demonstration on Thursday to protest confiscation of their vans by the district administration for overcharging.

They said fares on various intra-city routes had recently been adjusted by the transporters in accordance with the fall in petrol prices but the administration was pushing them for a bigger reduction. Wagon Owners’ Association president Ejaz Hussain said that they had reduced fares for a ride between terminal stops by up to Rs10.

He said the administration was asking that it be reduced by another Rs20. “This will leave us with no operating profits,” he said.

The protesters demonstrated for two hours before they dispersed.
