BB murder case: Doctor says police refused to allow autopsy
The doctor said that she stopped responding during treatment and he declared her dead.
RAWALPINDI:
A doctor who treated Benazir Bhutto after she was fatally injured told a court on Thursday that the police did not allow him to conduct a postmortem after she died during treatment.
Former Benazir Bhutto Hospital head Dr Mussadaq Khan stated before Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Judge Pervez Ismail Joya that when Bhutto was brought to the hospital, she was unable to breathe properly.
The doctor said that she stopped responding during treatment and he declared her dead.
Khan said that after he declared her dead, he asked former Rawalpindi City Police Officer Saud Aziz if he should conduct a postmortem, but was told that the police had not registered a First Information Report.
He said that after a few hours, he asked Aziz the same question again, which annoyed the police officer.
Khan told the court that the cause of the death could only have been determined through a postmortem, which was not conducted.
He said that the United Nations probe team also said that the police deliberately denied permission for a postmortem.
The court adjourned the hearing into the case till February 16.
