Anti-graft move: PIA engages NAB to stamp out corruption
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is working with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to weed out corruption from the ailing airline, which has a history of controversies involving kickbacks, nepotism and bribery.
It has set up the Vigilance and Monitoring Unit, headed by Waseem Ahmed, to ensure that corruption-related cases are detected and taken care of, officials said on Wednesday at a press conference. The unit will work independently without interference of any official or department. It will only report to PIA Chairman Nasser N S Jaffer.
It will process and forward cases to NAB and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on a fast-track basis, officials said. The airline has already brought in Pakistan Air Force (PAF) officers on deputation to manage its Procurement and Logistics Department, which deals with all the purchases.
