Targeted attack: Political party’s local leader gunned down

Victim used to work at a bank on University Road.

KARACHI:
A local leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was killed in a targeted attack near Aziz Bhatti Park in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on Monday evening.

The victim was identified as 48-year-old Ahsan Danish, son of Zareen Khan. Aziz Bhatti police officials said that the incident took place when Danish, who used to work at a bank on University Road, was on his way home from the bank to the National Cement Society in Dalmia.


According to the police, at least two men on a motorcycle shot Danish as he was about to take a turn near Aziz Bhatti Park in his grey Suzuki Cultus. DSP Nasir Lodhi said that initial investigation suggested two men were behind the attack, adding that they found three empty bullet shells at the crime scene and they will be sent to the forensic division of the Sindh police.

The deceased was the president of PPP's PS-118. The DSP confirmed that Danish had been killed in a targeted attack. The motive behind the killing has yet to be ascertained. The police said that the deceased died on the spot. The body was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for the autopsy.
