For better education: Minister promises amendments to improve varsities
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information Mushtaq Ahmed Ghani said amendments are being made to the Universities Act to improve varsities across the province.
Speaking to the media in Abbottabad on Monday, Ghani said the current session of the provincial assembly would approve the amendments and allow the government to revamp institutes.
He said there would be no acting vice chancellor (VC), according to the proposed amendments. The minister added all VCs would be appointed on merit through a ‘search committee’.
Ghani said autonomy would be granted to all government colleges in the province and their principals would also be appointed through the said search committees.
To a question, Ghani said the PTI-led government would soon conduct an audit of all universities to ensure transparency. He also assured legal action against VCs responsible for any wrongdoing and violating the merit policy.
