Man’s best friend: Show lures capital’s dog lovers to gun club
200 German shepherds judged in various categories at competition.

A large number of dog lovers gathered at the Guns and Country Club here on Sunday to participate in and witness expertly-trained German Shepherds at the Sieger Dog Show.
The event was organised by the German Shepherd Dog Club of Pakistan (GSDCP).
Out of a total of 237 entries, 200 canines participated in the show in various categories including minor puppy, puppy, junior, youth and open.
Each dog was graded by German judge Herr Peter Arth who also supervised the show.
“First time Awais Ahmed and Aqeel Sarfraz Khan’s local breed, “Anglique”, won the show by defeating many imported breeds in the open female category,” GSDCP Secretary Zahid Sindhu said, adding that it proved that breeding in Pakistan met international standards.
Daniyal Sheikh and Noman Asghar’s dog, “Team Paka’s Cairo”, were judged first in the open category male.
“We encourage better breeding standards for Germen Shepherds,” Sindhu said and added that GSDCP had organised 13 shows from Karachi to Islamabad to promote breeding of international standards during the season beginning November to March every year.
He said that recently two new German Shepherd Centres had been established in Murree and Sialkot in addition to the existing ones in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Faisalabad, Sheikhupura and Okara.
The German Shepherd is a large-sized working dog and is one of the most popular breeds of dogs in the world. They are often the preferred breed for many types of work, including search and rescue, police and military roles and even acting.
