ISLAMABAD:
Turkey’s Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu will arrive in Islamabad later this month on a two-day official visit. He will meet Pakistan’s political and military leaderships and discuss a host of issues, including the situation in Afghanistan, sources told The Express Tribune.

Davutoglu, who has served as Turkey’s foreign minister, has toured Pakistan earlier, but this will be his first visit to Islamabad after assuming the office of prime minister in August last year.

Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said: “When confirmed, we will announce dates of the visit.” Sources, however, said the Turkish prime minister is likely to arrive on February 16.

They added that Davutoglu was likely to discuss the situation in neighbouring Afghanistan and the challenge posed by the Islamic State group. He will also discuss how bilateral trade between Turkey and Pakistan can be increased.

Davutoglu will also lead his country in the Pakistan-Turkey strategic dialogue scheduled to be held in Islamabad on February 17. President Mamnoon Hussain will host a dinner in his honour.

Ankara and Islamabad have pledged to enhance cooperation in energy, trade, urban development and housing sectors. Pakistan’s first-ever Metro Bus service, in Lahore, was built in collaboration with Turkey.
