Acting governor: Appointment notification sought

The court sought federal and provincial governments’ responses.

LAHORE:
Lahore High Court on Friday directed that the notification for appointment of the Punjab Assembly speaker as acting governor be presented at the next hearing of the petition seeking the cancelation of the appointment. The court sought federal and provincial governments’ responses. Petitioner Munir Ahmad said the Constitution allowed a caretaker appointment to the office of governor only for situations when it was temporarily vacant. He said with the resignation of Chaudhry Sarwar, the government was required to make an appointment to the office rather than appointing the Punjab Assembly speaker to the post.
