KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has opened a branch of PIA Training Centre in Swat, as part of an initiative to raise a workforce for the aviation industry. This expansion in the training programme follows the directive of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif who wants PIA to impart relevant skills among the youth. The centre will be used to educate and train young people from Swat and adjoining areas in aircraft maintenance, the airline said. PIA has also opened similar centres in Lahore, Rawalpindi and Nawabshah while more branches have been planned in other cities. Prime Minister’s Aviation Adviser Shujaat Azeem, who inaugurated the Swat centre, had also directed the Civil Aviation Authority to reopen the Swat airport at the earliest.
