Textile: Policy to be cleared in 15 days
Federal Minister for Commerce Khurram Dastgir Khan has said that despite all handicaps, Pakistan has crossed the set target of an additional $1 billion in exports to the EU in just 10 months under the GSP Plus scheme.
“Being confronted with severe energy shortage and extremism, it is a great achievement,” he said, while addressing members of the Pakistan Textile Exporters Association (PTEA) on Wednesday.
Referring to statistics, he briefed that Pakistan’s exports to EU have increased by an additional $1.08 billion from January to October 2014. The figures are especially encouraging for the value-added textile sector as its exports to the EU have shown 25% growth.
However, he emphasised the need of increasing overall exports of the country. The new textile policy will be approved within 15 days and will be implemented soon, he added.
