An anti-terrorism court in Shikarpur on Tuesday sentenced a man to life in prison for his involvement in a suicide attack on former MNA Dr Ibrahim Jatoi in May 2013.


The court also ordered the accused, a man identified as Abdul Razzaq Khoso, to pay a fine of Rs100,000. If he fails to pay the fine, his sentence - 22 years behind bars, will increase by another six months.


The incident

Sources claimed that Dr Ibrahim, a leader of the National Peoples Party was en route to Shikarpur in his vehicle from his village in Napierabad, when a suicide bomber rammed his motorcycle into his bullet-proof vehicle. The incident took place near the Toll Plaza. Dr Ibrahim and his convoy remained unhurt while his vehicle was completely destroyed. The bomber was killed. He was later identified as Abdul Rasheed Khoso, a resident of Jhatpat, Balochistan.

Allah Warayo Jatoi, one of Dr Ibrahim's bodyguards lodged an FIR with the police against five men, including the bomber, Abdul Razzaq and Shahid Ali Naich.


The police arrested Abdul Razzaq and challaned him at the ATC. His accomplices are still on the run.
