Veteran Gwalior Gharana singer: Ghulam Hassan Shaggan passes away
Shaggan, who was born in Amritsar in India, was 85 years old at the time of his death and has 5 sons and 2 daughters

Pakistani classical singer of the Gwalior Gharana, Ghulam Hassan Shaggan passed away in Lahore on Tuesday. According to his son Mazhar Shaggan, the cause of death was a cardiac arrest and that he passed away in the ambulance while being taken to the hospital.
Shaggan, who was born in Amritsar in India, was 85 years old at the time of his death and has 5 sons and 2 daughters. Among the several titles and awards that have been bestowed upon Hassan include the Sangeet Samrat which he received at the music conference in Calcutta in 1962. He also received the Pride of Performance and Sitara-e-Imtiaz from the Pakistani government in recognition of his work in the field of music.
Ustad Shaggan was not only a household name in the subcontinent but he also received recognition in Europe as his musical prowess was recognised by French musicologists Gerard Kurgijian and Martina Catella.
PM Nawaz Sharif expressed grief and sorrow over the death of the renowned musician. Lauding his services, the premier said his death has created a vacuum in music industry which would be difficult to fill.
