Membership drive: Insaf Students Federation to target private schools this year
15-day drive begins in the city’s educational institutes today.
LAHORE:
The Insaf Students Federation plans to expand its membership drive this year to cover private schools in the city, ISF Lahore information secretary Abdul Monim Tariq Lodhi told The Express Tribune on Tuesday.
The ISF is set to start the drive across the city’s educational institutes with a ceremony at the University of Lahore. Besides the ISF office bearers, several PTI leaders are expected to attend the ceremony.
Its current membership comprises college and university students. The 15-day drive will also include online registration of students.
He said that of the more than 100,000 registered members in the city, about 25,000 were active in the organization’s day-to-day affairs. He added that the federation had more than a million members across the 36 districts of the province.
Lodhi lamented that most students did not take part in politics following their graduation from education institutes. He said the feedback received from students of the private-sector schools will decide if these institutions will be covered in membership drives in future as well.
He said this year the organisation planned on raising awareness about uniform educational standards across public and private sector institutes in the country.
He said besides organising co-curricular activities like workshops, declamation contests and festivals for students, the ISF also played a key role in the public activities of its parent political party, the Pakistan Tehrik Insaf ISF Lahore president Muneeb Aleem Awan said currently majority of its members belonged to institutions like the Lahore University of Management Sciences, the Lahore School of Economics, the University of Central Punjab, the University of Lahore and the National University of Emerging Sciences-FAST. He said they were working towards expanding their coverage of public-sector institutes of the city. The current membership at the Punjab University is just above 500.
