LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday sought replies from the DCO and the CCPO about the construction of multi-storey commercial buildings in the Walled City in violation of a stay order. The court was hearing a contempt of court petition moved by a resident of Kashmiri Gate challenging the construction activities in the old city.

The court had earlier stayed the construction of 136 such buildings. The petitioner’s counsel argued that the construction of the buildings, identified by the WCLA, had not been stopped.

The court adjourned the hearing until February 13. Asif Ali Mirza, the petitioner, has said construction of high-rise buildings in the Walled City was violation of laws. He said the court in its April 11, 2014 order had directed the respondent authorities to take action against the activity. He said, the respondents had failed to comply with the order.

He requested the court to initiate contempt of court proceedings against the authorities.
