Shop opens at the Pakistan National Museum of Ethnology at Shakarparian

The National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa) opened its souvenir shop at the Pakistan National Museum of Ethnology at Shakarparian.


The soft opening of the shop was performed by Lok Virsa Executive Director Shahera Shahid, said a press release issued on Tuesday.

At the executive director said it was for the first time since Lok Virsa’s inception in 1974 that the institute had set up its own souvenir shop. She added that the idea behind this is to provide a platform to artisans from all over the country to sell their products.

Explaining the objectives of the shop, she said it would help artisans continue and revive craft traditions and encourage them to innovate.

The executive director said the initiative would also pave way for poverty alleviation and economic empowerment of artisans from the rural areas of the country.

A number of items by various artisans are available at the shop.
