Anti-encroachment: SHC tells Rangers, Malir police to help in drive

The lawyers representing KMC and DC requested the court ask the Rangers DG and Malir SSP to help

KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) directed on Tuesday the Sindh Rangers director-general and the Malir police's senior superintendent to assist the local administration during the operation against encroachers.

A division bench, headed by Justice Nadeem Akhtar, gave this direction during the hearing of a petition seeking the removal of cabins under the Quaidabad flyover established by the defunct City District Government Karachi. The petition was filed in 2013.

On December 23 last year, the judges issued show-cause notices to Malir district's deputy commissioner (DC) to furnish an explanation as to why the orders were not being complied with. During Tuesday's proceedings, Advocate Ahmed Pirzada filed a compliance report on behalf of Malir DC, who said the encroachments could not be removed completely in view of the law and order situation created by the encroachers.

The lawyers representing the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and the DC requested the court ask the Rangers DG and Malir SSP to help. The DC's lawyer also assured that they will submit a list of all officers who had granted licences and allotted cabins under the Quaidabad flyover.
