Power connections: Residents take to the streets in Badhaber
Led by MPA Fazl Elahi, protesters chanted slogans against the authority.
PESHAWAR:
Residents of Badhaber took out a rally against the federal government and Water and Power Regulatory Authority (Wapda) on Sher Shah Suri Road on Monday.
Led by MPA Fazl Elahi, protesters chanted slogans against the authority for not installing power meters and not cutting down on electricity theft.
During his address, Elahi said the federal government has denied the province its rights and its resources are being used to provide power to the entire country except Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. “Only those who bribe Wapda officials get new electricity connections,” he said.
One of the protesters, Muhammad Salim Khan, said locals have requested the authority to install meters numerous times, but to no avail. The demonstrators threatened to destroy Shaikh Muhammadi grid station if their concerns are not addressed.
