At Parliament Lodges: NAB begins investigation into substandard furniture
A CDA departmental inquiry committee is also probing the matter.
ISLAMABAD:
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has started investigations into fixation of substandard furniture at parliamentarian’s residences. The secretary of the National Assembly Secretariat recently wrote a letter to NAB asking it to kick-off an inquiry into the provision of poor quality furniture at the suites of the Parliament Lodges and MNA Hostel, where legislators reside.
Two different contracts worth Rs135 million were given recently past by the Capital Development Authority to two different firms on a single tender basis.
According to the details, GSP was given contract of fixation of furniture at suites located at blocks C, F and G of the lodges.
However, several lawmakers later complained about inferior quality furniture being provided at their respective suites.
On January 30, the Islamabad High Court had also cancelled the contract of the said firms after a firm moved the court saying the contract was awarded in violation of Public Procurement Regulatory Authority rules and on a single tender basis without open competition.
