Asian squash event: Pakistan juniors to face Malaysia in continental final
Defending champions Pakistan will face hosts Malaysia in the final of the men’s Asian Junior Championship today with hopes of retaining their title for the fourth time in a row.
Pakistan have won the competition an overall 14 times, with the last three titles coming in 2010, 2012 and 2014, while Malaysia have been triumphant on three occasions in the history of the event. In the semi-finals, Pakistan beat Hong Kong 2-0 courtesy of Tayyab Aslam and Ali Bokhari, while Malaysia got the better of India with a 2-1 victory.
Tayyab got off to a poor start against Yuen Tsun Hei, but managed to turn the tables to win the match 3-1.
After being one game down, Tayyab’s superior game and fitness came into play as he won three games on the trot to win by scores of 9-11, 11-6, 11-4 and 11-6.
Meanwhile, Bokhari also had a dispirited beginning, but like Tayyab, he was able to turn it around and win 3-1 against Lau Tsz Kwan by 12-14, 11-3, 11-8 and 11-7.
