Zulqarnain’s family receives ‘threats’

Keeper’s Facebook message prompted call, says brother.

KARACHI:
The family of Zulqarnain Haider received threats after the wicket-keeper announced that he would reveal names of individuals involved in corruption.

Zulqarnain’s brother, Aqeel Haider said his family received a threatening call from an international number by an unknown person.

“We received a call in which the person threatened our family and Zulqarnain,” Aqeel told The Express Tribune without revealing the number. “The person said Zulqarnain is reachable and they would not spare the whole family if he will open his mouth.”

Meanwhile, as a result, security has been beefed up at Zulqarnain’s residence where two policemen were already deployed since the controversy broke out during the UAE tour.

“We have increased the security and are also in the process of tracing the number,” said SHO Sarfaraz Shah.

Earlier, Zulqarnain, in a message left on Facebook, said he would reveal the secret behind corruption in five days. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) formed a three-member fact-finding committee to probe the matter. The committee, is headed by team manager Intikhab Alam, is expected to submit report about the matter soon.

“I spoke to Zulqarnain on the phone during the probe and he never spoke about anything,” said Alam. “I’ll submit the report to the PCB about him very soon.”
