Sajjad Ali turns poet
Singer set to release a collection of ghazals and songs next month.
KARACHI:
Musician Sajjad Ali, who has long wowed audiences with his singing prowess, has turned to poetry and is set to release a compilation of poems, which includes lyrics of the songs and ghazals he has sung over his 35-year-long career, reported Roznama Express.
Sajjad said he has completed the compilation, which also features lyrics of songs that have been performed by other singers. He shared that he enjoys writing and composing his own songs and that quality music and poetry have always been a source of interest to him. “I always try to do songs that audiences would enjoy. In the past, there was a lot of quality work being done in our music industry, but of late, it seems to be going through a decline,” he commented.
Sajjad said that, in order to revive the local music scene, those involved would have to put in the same kind of effort that is being put into resuscitating the film industry. The musician recently featured in the popular music show Coke Studio for a second time this year. Apart from performing solo tracks on the show, the musician performed the song Jhoolay Laal alongside Fariha Pervez.
To date, Sajjad has released several albums, with his first album being the 1979-release Master Sajjad Sings Memorable Classics. The singer is known for several hits, including Bolo Bolo, Teri Yaad, Paniyon Mein, Chief Saab and Mahiwal. He has also acted in and directed the film Aik Aur Love Story. Apart from that, he has done playback singing for Pakistani movies, such as Bol and Na Maloom Afraad.
