KARACHI:
A man was killed and nearly one dozen others wounded in a low-intensity explosion in Malir City area of Karachi on Monday evening.
The attack took place at a gambling den run by Munnu Brohi, who is affiliated with the Baba Ladla group of Lyari. The gambling den is located at a ground located at Munnu Goth near Bakra Piri, within the limits of Malir City police station.
Malir City SHO Faisal Khan while quoting initial investigation said the attack was a result of fight between two groups involved in the Lyari gang war – Munnu Brohi group of Baba Ladla and Akbar Maliri group of the Uzair Baloch faction.
Initial reports suggest that members of Akbar Maliri group attacked members of the Baba Ladla group.
The officer added that the culprits apparently used locally-made hand cracker bomb in the attack, adding that majority of the victims were affiliated with the Munnu Brohi group or were gamblers.
The area was cordoned off by the police, while a search operation was initiated soon after the attack. No case has been registered yet.
Rescuers from different welfare associations also soon reached the site and shifted the victims to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).
JPMC’s Joint Executive Director Dr Seemin Jamali told The Express Tribune that one dead, while one dozen others injured were brought to the hospital.
“Five of them, including a 12-year-old boy who used to sell boiled eggs are in critical condition,” explained Dr Jamali.
The man killed in the explosion is yet to be identified while the injured persons include Waqar, Sohail, Yousuf, Ashraf, Abdul Ghaffar, Yasin, Adnan, Shabbir, Abdul Rasheed and Abdul Latif.
