KARACHI: Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon criticised the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) for their demand to impose martial law in the province, particularly in Karachi, and said that it will not be imposed on anyone's wishes or whims.

Speaking at Karachi Press Club on Friday, Memon said that those calling for army rule will remain unsuccessful with their demands. "Those who want to derail democracy are actually the supporters of dictatorship."

He said that if the MQM has any problems or issues with the provincial government, they should discuss it with them.

Reacting to Arbab Rahim

Earlier speaking outside the Sindh Assembly, he had said that the Pakistan Peoples Party had never politically attacked anyone but former Sindh chief minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim was forcing them to criticise him.

He alleged that Rahim released 45 target killers on parole and they were sent abroad. He said that the party never took political vengeance but Rahim and Liaquat Ali Jatoi seemed to be against democracy.

Memon pointed out that during the former chief minister's time, incidents like the May 12 violence and the attack on Benazir Bhutto took place.

Lashing out at Jatoi, he censured him for contesting the elections on the ticket of the Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz and later criticising the party's chief, Nawaz Sharif.
