Die of natural causes?: Two elderly women found dead in hotel
Gul Husaini Afroz and Mumtaz Akhtar had returned to the city after performing Umrah.
KARACHI:
Airport Police have found bodies of two elderly women from the Airport Hotel on Thursday. The deceased had returned to Karachi after performing Umrah and had been staying the night at the hotel.
Airport Police Station SHO Muhammad Khalid said that the deceased, identified as 70-year-old Gul Husaini Afroz and 64-year-old Mumtaz Akhtar, hailed from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Lahore respectively and were staying at the hotel as their flights were scheduled for Thursday.
“Airport Hotel administration informed us about the incident on Thursday morning when the room attendant found the two bodies when they went to clean the rooms,” the officer explained. He added that the women had reached Karachi on Wednesday night and the Airport administration had provided them the residential facility as their flights were scheduled on Thursday.
“Gul Husaini’s son, Rashid Minhas, told us that his mother was seriously ill and had probably died of natural causes while Mumtaz Akhtar’s attendant also claimed the same,” said SHO Khalid.
The officer added that the bodies were immediately shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for postmortem. The heirs refused, however, to conduct an autopsy and the bodies have been shipped to their respective hometowns.
