VIDEO: Are McDonald’s fries really made out of potatoes?

Spoiler: they really are made out of potatoes.

Screengrab from the McDonald's video.

“I know what you’re thinking,” says Grant Imahara, co-host of the American television show MythBusters. “These look like potatoes, but are they really potatoes?”

Imahara was recently given a tour of a Simplot plant where McDonald's French fries are made. Simplot is the company that supplies potatoes to McDonald's in the US.

“Potatoes are just like people,” says Koko Neher, the plant employee giving Imahara the tour. “They come in different shapes and sizes.”
