KARACHI: Two people were shot dead while two suspected robbers were killed and two alleged extortionists were arrested in separate incidents on Wednesday.

A young man was gunned down in Federal B Area within the jurisdiction of Azizabad police. He was identified as 27-year-old Shoaib, son of Badaruddin. He was shot multiple times and died on the spot. His body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy. According to SHO Asim Rehman, the deceased, who was attacked shortly after leaving Madni Masjid after Zuhr prayers, used to teach children the Holy Quran. Rehman said that the motive behind the incident has yet to be ascertained.

Police officials said that the two men were sitting near their residences when alleged members of the Uzair Baloch gang attacked them over suspicion of being informants. Further investigation is underway.

Separately, two suspected robbers were killed during an alleged encounter with the police in North Nazimabad. Sharae Noor Jahan police officials claimed that the encounter occurred when their team conducting intercepted two motorcyclists durig routine snap-checks. The motorcyclists tried to escape under the cover of fire but the police retaliated and managed to arrest the two suspects in injured condition. They were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where the two succumbed to their injuries. The police also claimed to have seized two pistols and a motorcycle from their possession. The bodies were later moved to the Edhi morgue in Sohrab Goth for identification. A case has been registered.

Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) police claimed to have apprehended two alleged extortionists. SIU officials said that Anwar Malik and Roni Sadiq were arrested after an exchange of fire during a raid in Manghopir. They added that the accused men were involved in various cases of extorting money from the owners of marble factories in the area. Two pistols were also confiscated from their possession.
