At least five people were killed and more than 21 injured in a road accident on the Indus Highway near Kandhkot within the limits of Ghouspur police on Wednesday evening.


A passenger coach travelling to Peshawar collided head-on with a trailer coming from the opposite direction near Ghouspur. As a result, the coach overturned, killing five people and injuring more than 21 others.


The bodies were shifted to Kashmore Hospital for autopsy and were identified as Anwar Saeed, Azhar Jan, Muhammad Ayaz, Hayat Khan and Nadir Khan. Those injured include Mukarram Khan, Yar Muhammad, Muhammad Sudheer, Nadia, Wazir Ali, Sofia, Inamullah, Fakhar Zaman and Muhammad Ehsan. Most of them were taken to Kashmore and Guddu hospitals for treatment, while four people in critical condition were referred to a hospital in Rahim Yar Khan.

According to the passengers, the coach driver was speeding. Bukshapur head constable Qamar Din Jakhrani added that the collision was seemingly the fault of the coach driver, who had moved his vehicle into the path of the trailer. He said that it has yet to be determined if the trailer driver was among the dead or the injured. The police have impounded the coach, while the coach driver fled from the scene.

Meanwhile, a woman was killed and two others injured in a road accident on National Highway near Gangi village within the limits of Sarhad police on Wednesday. Sonaro Kori was travelling to Mirpur Mathelo from Sarhad on a motorcycle with his mother Mai Makhni and aunt Allah Dini.

A speeding truck coming from the opposite direction collided with the motorcycle, killing Mai Makhni on the spot and injuring Kori and Allah Dini. The deceased and the injured were shifted to Civil Hospital, Mirpur Mathelo. The truck driver fled from the scene. The truck was impounded by the police.
