Civic governance: 300 fined for littering, wasting water
ISLAMABAD:
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Sunday said that it had fined 300 residents for wasting water and for not properly disposing of litter in December 2014. The civic agency said that another 75 residents were warned against water wastage and littering their surroundings. CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal on Sunday reviewed performance of the authority’s sanitation wing. Under municipal by-laws of 1969, littering and water wastage is an offense and liable to imposition of fine. CDA Member Environment Mustafain Kazmi told the meeting that teams had been constituted to keep check on civic rules violations and to fine the violators. The chairman, in a statement, requested the public to fulfill their civic obligations and make Islamabad a better place to live. He also directed the environment wing to expedite its ongoing campaign against the violators. He also asked the officials to launch a campaign to educate the residents about civic by-laws.
