Eunuchs protest against police inaction

Eunuchs protested against the killing of a eunuch in Lahore, accused police officials of delaying the investigation.

FAISALABAD:
A group of eunuchs protested outside the press club against the killing of a eunuch in Lahore and accused police officials of delaying the investigation.

The eunuchs blocked the road and shouted slogans against the police. They said that the police did not provide them with any security and alleged that police officials had not followed up on the murder case of a member of their community. “They hardly spoke to us or took our comments about what had happened,” said a eunuch, Salma, adding “Two days later they just closed the investigation.”

The protesters said that they would not stop protesting until the police personally assured them that they would pursue the investigation into the murder of their community member and arrested the accused.

“We are already a marginalised community and there are many things that we forego all the time. That doesn’t mean we are willing to forego justice,” said the leader of the protesters, Mona.  They said that Amir, a eunuch, was killed by police during a raid and demanded that the police official who was involved in the killing should be arrested as soon as possible. They appealed to the chief justice to take notice of the matter.

Police, however, deny that Amir was shot.  The preliminary medical report also said that a head injury was the cause of death.
