ISLAMABAD:
National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry on Saturday said the institution is determined to eradicate corruption from the country with absolute professionalism, integrity and without ‘fear or favor’ to anyone.
He was speaking to NAB officers during a visit to the corruption watchdog’s Karachi regional bureau. Chaudhry said NAB believes in zero-tolerance towards corruption and noted that it is ‘encouraging’ that anti-corruption efforts have been made part of the country’s development agenda for the first time. The Planning Commission has included a chapter devoted to issues of corruption in the 11th five year plan.
The NAB chief said the latest Transparency International report listed Pakistan at the 126th position out of 175 countries worldwide, the highest position attained by the country. He directed all NAB officials to intensify their efforts to eradicate corruption and work with honesty and integrity.
During the visit, Chaudhry also inaugurated a water filtration plant and planted a tree at the NAB Karachi bureau. The director general and other senior officers of the NAB Karachi bureau were present on the occasion.
