Expressing Resentment: Lawyers protest controversial caricatures
SUKKUR/KARACHI:
The legal fraternity across Karachi and upper Sindh boycotted court proceedings and staged demonstrations on Saturday to vent out their anger against the publication of controversial caricatures in the French satirical weekly, Charlie Hebdo. Rallies were held and sit-ins were staged on MA Jinnah Road by the Karachi Bar Association (KBA) and on National Highway by the Malir Bar Association (MBA). Similarly, in Sukkur, scores of lawyers led by District Bar Association (DBA) president Shafqat Raheem and general secretary Ali Haider Ada stayed away from courts and held a rally from district and sessions court to Minara Road, where they staged a demonstration. “We want the Pakistani government to summon the French ambassador and record an official protest,” said KBA president-elect Naeem Qureshi.
