Taking Measures: Upgrading the fire department
KARACHI:
Former chief fire officer Ehtishamuddin said steps were being taken to improve the fire fighting department and a plan has been chalked out. "The number of 22 unfurnished fire stations will be increased to 28 well-equipped fire stations in the first phase," he said. Acknowledging that the fire emergency hotline 16 could not be attended round-the-clock, he added that people must know the contact number of the fire station in their area as well. Deputy chief fire officer Syed Imtiaz Afzal said that the department will be upgraded with the help of industrialists as they had contacted the department after they were requested to contribute in the sector.
