Official statements: President, PM say govt’s efforts bearing fruit
Suggest economic policies are on the right track.

While addressing a delegation of business community, President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif have stated that strenuous and sincere efforts are under way to ensure a better and secure future of the coming generations.
According to an official handout, the president and the prime minister said that despite the negative impact of the sit-ins, the government has worked really hard to put the economy on the right track.
The president observed that the government was serious towards improving the economy and to promote trade and commerce in the country.
“In this regard, the policies of the government are in the right direction,” said Hussain.
He underscored the need for traders and business community to take advantage from the policies so that the economy is further stabilised and more job opportunities are created.
Hussain said that law and order situation and energy shortages were the two major obstructions in the growth of economic activities and the government was fully concentrating on addressing these issues. He assured traders that these issues would be resolved at the earliest possible.
The prime minister said that the government was addressing energy and petrol issues of the domestic consumers and the business community.
“Power plants are also being set up in the county,” he continued. “We want maximum production of electricity by 2017 so that investors and business community can be assured that they have all the resources and energy to meet their requirements.”
Sharif informed the delegation that it has been decided to lay a gas pipeline from Gwadar to Nawab Shah. “The pipeline would also be laid from Iran to Gwadar,” he said.
“For establishing infrastructure, work is in progress and tenders have been called for many projects.”
He informed that the work was under way on the construction of Karachi-Lahore Motorway, “In this regard, funds worth Rs55 billion have been released.” He spoke of China’s interest in the construction of Multan-Sukkur Motorway and negotiations are under way in this regard.
