An anti-terrorism court sentenced on Wednesday a man to 15 collective years in prison after he was found guilty of demanding extortion, attacking the police with the intention to kill and possessing an illicit weapon.


Ibrahim was found guilty of demanding Rs1million as extortion from a man, identified as Rafiq, and assaulting police personnel and injuring them at the time of arrest. He was sentenced to five years in jail for possessing an unlicensed weapon, five years for demanding extortion and another five years for deterring public servants from doing their duty.


Ibrahim was arrested by Site police in August, 2013, after an encounter. The conviction was made under Section 23(1)-A of the Sindh Arms Act, Sections 6(2)(k) and 6(2)(m) of the Anti-Terrorism Act.


The ATC-VIII judge observed that all the sentences shall run concurrently from the date of the judgment. The convict was also ordered to pay Rs150,000 as fine. He will face an additional 18 months in jail if he fails to pay the fine.
