Then and now: Never forget
Heart-wrenching photograph of Peshawar victims serves as reminder of lives stolen
A student of the Army Public School gave the world an agonizing reminder of the brutal attack on the army run school, about the young, innocent lives that were lost on that fateful day of December 2014.
Talha Munir Paracha recreated a photograph he had taken with his classmates prior to the tragic attack. The original one has four boys standing side by side, including Talha.
The latest one, taken after the school reopened following the tragic incident which took place less than a month ago, has only two students in it -- Talha (far left) and Hassan Javed Khan (second right) -- clad in their green school uniform.
The photograph, posted on Talha’s Facebook page as his cover photo, was taken post the Peshawar attack, and is simply heart-wrenching.
The other two school children, Rafiq Bangash (second left) and Mohammad Yassen (far right), are missing from the picture, having lost their lives in the savage attack on the school by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), in which 150 people lost their lives, of which 132 were students.
A Facebook page set up in memory of Rafiq has over 10,000 likes.
The attack on the school resulted in worldwide condemnation, and candlight vigils across Pakistan, with everyone in mourning and shock over the loss of not just so many lives, but so many young lives.
The government was also quick to unite and vote on the establishment of military courts, as well as Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif lifting the ban on the death penalty in terrorism-related cases. Since then, 16 terrorists have been executed.
