KARACHI:

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain has called for a ban on the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI).

He has also stated that JI leaders who criticise the army should be arrested. “If we want to save the country, then I appeal to the people and the authorities to impose a ban on the JI,” said Altaf Hussain in an interview with a news channel on Tuesday.

“Fifty per cent of men belonging to the alQaeda, Islamic State and Taliban have been arrested from the houses of JI leaders.”

Reacting to Hussain’s statement, JI spokesperson issued a statement from Lahore and said that if Hussain was so concerned about Pakistan then maybe he should end his self-proclaimed exile.

He said that Altaf alone can throw light on the issue of extortion and target killings in Karachi, where his party has been ruling for the past three decades.
