ATC sentences 4 militants to death for involvement in ISI office attack
All the five convicts were arrested in 2009 in connection with the attack which left over 15 people dead
MULTAN:
An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Tuesday sentenced four militants to death 11 times for their involvement in the attack on an Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) office, while another was sentenced to 25 years in jail.
Abdul Rahim, Salman, Sajjad and Muhammad Afzal were sentenced to death, while Aijaz was sentenced to 25 years in jail for providing logistical support to militants.
Threats had previously forced seven judges to avoid the case. But on Tuesday, a judge moved ahead with sentencing.
The convicts had been arrested in 2009 in connection with the attack on the ISI office in Multan. The attack on December 8, 2009 had left 15 people dead and the office severely damaged.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had last month lifted the moratorium on death penalty after the Taliban attacked the army-run school in Peshawar, which killed 150 people, mostly schoolchildren.
Since then, at least 13 terror convicts have been executed.
