Later in the day, a member of Zuckerberg's Facebook team, Justin Osofsky, in a post said that Facebook had "made a mistake in taking this down".

"We apologise for this error, and hope that the author will re-post it as we are not able to restore it from our end," the post further stated.

Earlier on Sunday evening, Hamza Ali said the social media website had removed his post and warned him after deactivating his profile.

The removal of the post by Facebook was heavily censured since Zuckerberg had just a day ago declared that he would not cow down to extremists and curb speech on his site. The post by Abbasi got over 45,000 likes and some 5,000 shares.
