Pakistan women clinch ODI series with Sharjah win
Winners beat Sri Lanka by 12 runs to go 2-0 up in the three-match series
KARACHI:
An all-round performance from captain Sana Mir earned her team a narrow 12-run win over Sri Lanka in the second ODI of the three match series being played at Sharjah.
Sana top-scored with 34 in an innings that spanned 79 balls and included two hits to the fence before taking two wickets in a canny 10-over spell that shackled the Islanders in pursuit of a meagre 139-run target.
Batting first, Pakistan stuttered to get going and lost wickets at crucial stages. Sana held the middle-order together with her fighting knock. Nain Abidi chipped in with 29 runs as the women in green ended their 50-over quota losing nine wickets for their paltry total which did not include any six.
Sugandika Kumari was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets from eight overs for just 24 runs, while Eshani Kaushalya bagged two in seven overs giving away 17 runs.
But even the seemingly inadequate effort with the bat proved more than a handful for the Sri Lankans who collapsed to 126 all-out with 29 deliveries of their stipulated 50 overs unused.
Bismah Maroof and Sadia Yousuf shared six wickets equally, while Sana and Sumaiya Siddiqi provided crucial breakthroughs to peg back the female Islanders. Dilani Manodara fought hard for her team with a futile 38-run effort with the bat while Prasadani Weerakkody scored the second highest 19 runs for Sri Lanka.
