Mystery: Suspect murderer sent on four-day remand
Police say the missing Sikh hakeem was chopped to death and thrown in a nullah.
RAWALPINDI:
A man suspected of murdering a Sikh hakeem in Rawalpindi has been given in police custody on a four-day remand.
Manmohan Singh, who ran a herbal medicine clinic at Haroon Chowk in Shakrial, went missing on January 3 and his father lodged a case with Sadiqabad police the same day.
Police said he was kidnapped while on his way to the clinic on January 3.
Taking clue from the victim’s telephone record, the police on Friday raided a house in Wazeer Colony on the outskirts of Gulzar-e-Quaid area and arrested a suspect, named Waheed.
The case’s investigation officer Mehar Mumtaz told The Express Tribune on Saturday that the suspect during the interrogation confessed to murdering Singh in his house.
Police said that the suspect invited Manmohan Singh to his house and offered him a contaminated drink due to which Singh fell unconscious. The suspect then dragged Singh into the washroom, chopped him with an axe and a dagger and threw the body pieces into a nearby nullah.
The police official said that they had recovered six body pieces from the nullah and also confiscated a dagger, an axe, and some other tools from the suspect’s house.
The suspect told the police that he had some “personal issues” with the victim, the investigation officer said.
Mumtaz said that investigation was under way and the mystery would be solved soon.
