An attractive flower show

A beautiful arrangement of 82 varieties of flowers was put on display at Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi.

RAWALPINDI: Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) on Thursday organised Chrysanthemums and Autumn Flowers show, which attracted a large number of people.

The three-day show was arranged by the Department of Horticulture of PMAS-AAUR in collaboration with the National Horticulture Society of Pakistan to provide a platform for different organisations and show their expertise in the field while providing healthy entertainment to the residents of twin cities.

Proffessor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan, Vice Chancellor, PMAS-AAUR Agriculture University Faisalabad, was the chief guest who inaugurated
the show.

The flower show aimed to promote positive aspects of floriculture in daily life and provide a forum to hobby gardeners for sharing their ideas and exchanging information with professionals.

More then 82 varieties of Chrysanthemums flowers including Bougainvillea, Coleus, Gerbera, Marigold, Geranium and Poinsettia were displaying by the different organisations.

The organisations and universities which participated in this show included Capital Development Authority (CDA) Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi, Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), COMSATS university, Civil Military Hospital (CMH) Rawalpindi, Islamabad Club, Air Force Head Quarter, Chaklala Cantonment Board and others.

Talking to The Express Tribune Dr Nadeem Abbasi, Chairman Department of Horticulture of Agriculture University said that there was a dire need to pay attention to the flower industry as we could earn
huge foreign exchange through export.

Abbasi further said that there is a strong relation between flowers and the environment.

Aneesa Rehman a University student while appreciating the flowers show said that it’s a healthy activity. “During visiting the flower shows, I feel relaxed because of pollution free environment,” she added, she suggested that these flower shows should be held every month.
